Claire Croizé

Claire graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in 2000 and, after working as an artist in residence at wpZimmer, founded the company Action Scénique in 2008 together with Nada Gambier and Etienne Guilloteau. In 2016, Claire and Etienne continued their close collaboration together under a new name, ECCE. Music, especially live music, plays a prominent role in their work.

The philosophy of ECCE is about movement and physicality; their aim is to show the dancer as a concrete physical individual. Some of Claire’s previous productions include The Farewell (2009, Prix Jardin d’Europe), Primitive (2014), and Flowers (we are) (2019). Her production EVOL was selected by the Theaterfestival and named one of the best dance productions of 2016 by De Morgen.

Projects

The Farewell (2009)

After the creation of Affected (2006), a piece consisting of three soli based on the Lieder of Gustav Mahler, Claire Croizé continues her work with Mahler’s music in The Farewell

Dido (2007)

In Dido, Claire Croizé and Etienne Guilloteau explore how a story about love (or a lack thereof) can be told without narrative structure.

Affected (2006)

Affected consists of three solos for three women of the same age, set to the music of Gustav Mahler.

Skènè (2004)

Skènè starts from the idea that people play games to grasp the space that surrounds us, to organize it so that it will never escape us.

Blowing Up (2002)

Blowing up is an exceptionally pure and bold performance by a young choreographer: alone and vulnerable on stage, alone with her own body and gravity.

Residencies

Duet for Two String Trios (working title) (2021)

Duet for two string trios is a coming together of pure dance and music, full of intimacy and lyricism, intense and disruptive, like the times we live in.

Flowers (we are) (2018)

The residency in wpZimmer is a technical residency near the end of our creation process, so we will be working on and finetuning the dance material and the dramaturgy as well as the definitive costumes, scenography and lighting plan.

Flowers (we are) (2018)

With Flowers (we are), Claire Croizé collaborates for the first time with a contemporary composer Matteo Fargion. Together they create a dance piece with live music by and inspired by the works of Bach.

Mer- (2017)

Mer- is a piece for five dancers and five singers, built on songs around death, sorrow and pain from the Renaissance period.

EVOL (2016)

Over the years, Croizé’s attention to the sensitivity of the movement vocabulary of her dancers only increased. Her dance language is nourished by this loving gaze on the body and its movements. EVOL want to share that love with the public.
