Maïte Álvarez
Maïte Álvarez is a choreographer and a visual artist who lives and works in Brussels. She studied Graphic Design at the High School of Arts of Rhine (Strasbourg, FR) and Choreographic Practice at ISAC – Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Brussels, BE). Maïte Álvarez’s hybrid path leads her to constantly search for the porous boundaries between dance, object, medium and space.
Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at the FRAC Grand Large (FR) in 2014, at the National Choreographic Center ‘Orleans (FR) in 2016 and recently at the FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (FR) in 2020 under the title Atlas de Nuit, in which her works STELLA (2018 City of Brussels Award), the Seismographs (2015-2020) and être ciel (creation in progress, co-producted by Charleroi danse and KAAP), has been presented as installations and live performances.
In parallel to her personal work, Maïte Álvarez has started to collaborate with artists such as the duet Simone Basani and Alice Ciresola. For them she performed in Venice (2018) and Brussels (2019), and she created and performed ‘La collectionneuse’ in Gruuthumuseum in Bruges (2021) as part of the project JEANNE. Or the Western Touch, in the frame of Festival ‘Mind the Artist’ Festival.
