Tarek Halaby

Tarek Halaby is a Palestinian-American performer based in Brussels. He is a graduate of The University of Iowa where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance. For three years he lived and worked in New York dancing with various companies and independent choreographers. Tarek completed the two year Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S. in 2006.

Tarek Halaby completed an artistic trajectory within wpZimmer from 2006-2014.

Deep Aerobics / The Knife warm-up (2013)

In the slipstream of the Swedish cultband The Knife, Tarek Halaby & co. got a lot of people on the move on some major summer festivals with his warm-up for The Habitual Show, Deep Aerobics. Collective motion on the edge between camp, fitness and rethorics.

Performing for the first time (2011)

Working without the aim to produce a specific piece or performance, he has set up a series titled Performing for the first time which, in essence, is an experiment on how to produce work.

Finally, I am no one (2008)

In Finally, I am no one Tarek wants to give Palestinians living in the occupied territories in Israel a voice. He therefore focuses on what it means to have to live in a gated 'land' and how that effects every aspect of your daily life.

Actually, I am someone (2008)

Actually, I'm someone consist of portraits of Palestinians living under Israeli occupation. Offering up close and personal images of Palestinians, this series provides an intimate view of individuals that most people never have the chance to see or hear about.

Love. Death. My life with Ting-Yu. Oh wait, I am you. (2006)

This (intensely fake) piece (that pretends to be) about real life is an autobiographical drama (made without a single thought towards dramaturgy).

An attempt to understand my socio-political disposition (2005)

An attempt to understand my socio-political disposition is the result of a research process in which Tarek looks into the varying and matching points between collective and personal stories, inside the choreographic creative processes.
