Mary Szydlowska is an artist and choreographer based in Brussels. Their practice feeds on the notions of the peripheral, withdrawn and invisible, followed within architectural spaces and institutional environments.

Through limbos of attention and materialism erotics, they commit to gestural dances involving fabrics, objects, buildings and/or sculptures. They make performances, videos and installations.

Her work was shown and supported by Beursschouwburg (BE, Brussels), Brussels Gallery Weekend, Zachęta National Gallery (PL, Warsaw), BUDA Kortrijk (BE), KANAL. Centre Pompidou (BE, Brussels).

Mary Szydłowska graduated from STUDIOS master programme at PARTS and holds an MA in culture studies (Jagiellonian University, Cracow).

Cleaning Oracles (2023)

Cleaning Oracles is a performative research space, in which one can speculate on oracles and the future telling potential of cleaning. “When cleaning, one can foresee the future.” This hypothesis talks about the meditative aspect of cleaning, repetitive gestures and automatism, which may create a mental space for imagination, thought flow, forecasts and maybe hypnosis.
