First

With First Geert Belpaeme composes a prelude with movement. For this performance he takes his inspiration from Tik Tak (an iconic Belgian tv program for todlers), geometry en the essay ‘The first man was an artist’ by expressionist Barnett Newman. That mix yields the leitmotiv that puts everything into motion: The desire to be a line.

First starts off from the idea that we, human beings, are ourselves the creators of the reality we live in. First is a pamphlet, an ode to beginning, danced by the first man, for the last man: ‘I still feel we are in a prelude of history. Or again at the prelude. What matters is the beginning. What matters is to constantly begin.’
