Amelia Malfait Lakhtara
Amelia Malfait Lakhtara (she/her, 1995) is a Brussels-based theatre maker. After some wanderings into history, Arabistics and philosophy, she graduated as a theatre maker from RITCS with FA FA FACADE in 2021 and joined TransfoCollect. Malfait Lakhtara also conducts theatre workshops in BRONKS. She is fascinated by the dark caverns of childhood, by absurdism and madness. Averse to conventions, she bricoles worlds as junkyards, populated by creatures that dismantle the differences between humans, animals and things. Amelia made work in and for Sint Lukas Brussel, the Concertgebouw Brugge, Alleedukaai, Theatre Antigone, Decoratelier… among others, and collaborated with Renée Goethijn, Michiel Soete, Rachid Laachir, Benjamin Verdonck…
Amelia is working on a series of sculptures (IT TAKES A MUSCLE TO FALL IN LOVE) around the heart organ, growing fungi that she transforms into masks, costumes, set pieces, and writing MENSES; a collection of surrealist short stories around menstrual bleeding. In 2023-2024, she is working on the scenography of a visual performance FI FI FILE in which actors, music and scenery meet amid an eternal traffic jam.
